Wilson was almost operatic in some of his recordings, which was very different from the early soul/pop of the day. He could rev it up very well, though, as "Baby Workout" and "Higher and Higher" would attest. My very favorite is still the first record I bought by JW, "Reet Petite".
Jackie Wilson was perhaps the most multi-talented entertainer, of his time. No one in R & B from his era to this date (2008)could match his range and diction. His recording of "Danny Boy and "A Woman A Lover A Friend" demonstrates the range of this artist. Though it is not a collection of his best repertoire I give it 4 stars.
