Banana Wind is typical latter-day Jimmy Buffett. Over laid-back, Caribbean-inflected folk-rock, Buffett waxes eloquent over boats, booze, sun, and women. This is my favorite Buffett album. I even named a dog of mine after Desdemona from Track 8. I will never forget our priest' face when at our blessing of the animal's ceremony (Episcopal celebration of the life of St. Francis) we told him her name. He said "Oh, Shakespere". And we said, "No, Buffett." When I read Buffett's autobiograph y , A Pirate Looks at 50, this is the album I hear. Track 12 about his father and the hidden track, Treetop Flyer, are my two favorite Buffett songs.

It took me a long time after its release to buy this one - it was not well-represe n t e d by the few songs I heard on my fav adult-altern a t i v e radio station, and I was disappointed . When I did give in and buy it, I found that it has some hidden gems I'd never want to do without. If you are a Parrothead, you should have it, even though it's not Jimmy's best.
