Rock The Joint! The Jimmy Cavallo Collection 1951-1973
About This Album
Recorded between 1951-1973, Rock the Joint! is a single-disc, 29-track overview of singer/saxophonist Jimmy Cavallo. Cavallo appeared in the 1956 Alan Freed flick Rock, Rock, Rock, singing the title song with his band the Houserockers. A live version of that track is included, along with several other upbeat jumpers recorded mainly for the Coral label: "Rock the Joint," "The Big Beat," "Foot Stompin'," "Cherry Pie," and "Fanny Brown." The program only slows down during the accordion-laden "Hold Me in Your Arms" and "Too Many Heartaches" which, following the jump material, sound like Lawrence Welk fluff. The sound quality isn't top-notch, and is occasionally muddy, but fans of early rock & roll shouldn't allow that to sway them from purchasing this disc on the Blue Wave label. ~Al Campbell, All Music Guide
