Just Got Paid condenses Johnny Kemp's albums -- including 1986's Johnny Kemp and the following year's Secrets of Flying -- into one succinct roundup. Since the albums were long out of print in 2006, the compilation instantly became the easiest release of his to track down. It contains his two principal hits: "Just Another Lover," featuring Kashif's trademark production (bounding synthesized bass, glimmering melodies), as well as "Just Got Paid," an early Teddy Riley production that foreshadowed new jack swing. The ballad "One Thing Led to Another" is here, but Kemp's fourth and final hit -- "Birthday Suit" -- is missing. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
