About This Album
Give Justin Timberlake credit for this: he has ambition. He may not have good instincts and may bungle his execution, but he sure has ambition and has ever since he was the leading heartthrob in *NSYNC. He drove the teen pop quintet to the top of the charts, far exceeding their peers the Backstreet Boys, and when the group could achieve no more, he eased into a solo career that earned him great sales and a fair amount of praise, largely centered on how he reworked the dynamic sound of early Michael Jackson at a time when Jacko was so hapless he turned away songs that later became JT hits, as in the Neptunes-propelled "Rock Your Body." That song and "Cry Me a River" turned his 2002 solo debut, Justified, into a blockbuster, which in turn meant that he started to be taken seriously -- not just by teens-turned-adult, but also by some rock critics and Hollywood, who gave him no less than three starring roles in the wake of Justified. Those films all fell victim to endless delays -- Alpha Dog aired at Sundance 2006 but didn't see release that year, nor did Black Snake Moan, which got pushed back until 2007, leaving Edison Force, a roundly panned Shattered Glass-styled thriller that sneaked out onto video, as the first Timberlake film to see the light of day -- but even if silver screen stardom proved elusive, Justin didn't seem phased at all, and his fall 2006 album FutureSex/LoveSounds proves why: he'd been pouring all his energy into his second album to ensure that he didn't have a sophomore slump.

I was never a JT fan. Changed my mind after seeing him in SNL and began listening to this album. Turns out I love him. Great sounds to sing and dance to plus now I think a man that can make me laugh and can dance like that = HOT.

Yea the Backstreet Boys pretty much sold the same as 'Nsync.... & Backstreet Boys had more longevity and singles success.... But I agree with everything else the critic is saying.... Justin's music isn't genuine. He just wants to do what has already been done. In order to make it in this industry, people shouldn't always be able to see the transparency of your music eluding to someone else's success. Perfect review. I, too, find Justin Timberlake graceless yet completely fascinating. His songwriting is laughable (and it's not that I don't like the genre - I just bought The Dream's new album and think it's awesome and well crafted)... and yet, when Justin's new songs come out, I'm always anxious to hear them.

This critic is an idiot. He's created an entire scenario to prop up his pedantic rhetoric and succeeds only in proving that he is completely disconnected from the people that actually like what Justin Timberlake is doing. He's getting my sexy butt out on the dancefloor where it should be. HA!

i do agree w/ the critic when he said that there are allusions to prince, but that it is more in timbaland's production than in the execution itself. justin's vocals are just slightly reminiscent to his purple badness, which is good, because it still gives justin an authenticity and isn't just another bad prince rip-off. i applaud justin for reaching back yet maintaining his own I.D. not everyone can pull that off.

this critic is totally wrong about jt, he's a great artist and deserves praises for the classic that is futuresex/lo v e s o u n d s . this critic just sounds like a hater, and hate that he and his crappy band "who dat" can't make any good music!!!

After reading some of these comments....
This album is clearly one of the best that came out in 2006 - BY A LOT OF PEOPLE, regardless of their color. People can 'hate' on it all they want, but I say more than a few people bumpin' these tunes from their cars. I think it's hilarious that the reviewer didn't mention any of the songs on the album, but chose to talk about it's 'vibe' and JT's idea of what he should be singing. Next time try to keep it less personal. |

alright album- though its crap to say that nsync far outsold bsb. true, they did beat millineum, but over all, in totaled sales, bsb easily wins.

I'm a 23 year old male. I grew up dogging NSYNC and Backstreet boys. My girlfriend got this album and so I was forced to listen to it at first. After a few play throughs, I have to admit that this is one of the BEST CDs you could purchase.
You cannot compare this album to Justin's other album Justified. This one is on a whole new level and you can really see a mature artist producing great songs. A+ |
