This Collectables CD contains LaVern Baker's first two albums, LaVern and LaVern Baker, on disc. Both records are excellent -- even if a couple of cuts fall a little flat, most of the material is first-rate and Baker is in terrific form, singing with power and grace. The remastering and packaging aren't quite up to the standard of the music itself, but serious Baker fans will want this disc regardless, since it contains so many fine recordings that aren't available anywhere else. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
