The Leo Kottke Anthology
About This Album
The Leo Kottke Anthology is a two-CD, 37-track retrospective of the first 15 years of Leo Kottke's recording career, drawing from over a dozen albums recorded between 1969 and 1983. This has a higher proportion of Kottke's vocals than some might expect, which may mildly disappoint fans who value his guitar virtuosity more than any of his other attributes. It's still a good, well-chosen compilation, leaning most heavily on his first three albums from the late '60s and early '70s, although this comprises less than half the set. It's also a good representation of both his original material and his wide-ranging abilities as an interpreter, with a diverse assortment of covers from the Byrds, Beau Brummels, John Fahey, Paul Siebel, Jorma Kaukonen, Buddy Holly, Santo & Johnny, Tom T. Hall, and John McLaughlin. The liners include detailed comments on each track by Kottke himself. ~ Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide
