The Preacher King Of Rock'n' Roll
About This Album
British budget label Prism Leisure's Preacher King of Rock N' Roll is another in the seemingly endless succession of compilations of re-recordings of Little Richard's hits. Versions of some of his most popular songs of the 1950s -- "Long Tall Sally," "Keep A Knockin'," "Jenny, Jenny," "Good Golly, Miss Molly," "Tutti-Frutti," etc. -- are included, along with some curiosities ("Groovy Little Suzy," "Cherry Red"). The sources of the tracks, which are not revealed in the bare-bones packaging, seem to be various, from fairly faithful re-creations of the original arrangements to low-fidelity live recordings. Little Richard's enthusiasm for performing is always evident, but this is a poorly assembled collection of stray recordings. ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide
