Beyond The Black Hole
About This Album
Culling material from the 1997 Australian release What Remains Inside a Black Hole, Estrus remasters, rearranges, and repackages its old B-sides and outtakes to make for an effective stopgap release. Of the old tracks, "Polaris" and "Surf Terror" retain the band's theremin-inspired '50s B-movie sci-fi indulgences the best. Dispensable new cuts "Green-Blooded Love" and "The Wayward Meteor" are less humorous, pointing surf guitar energies towards the harder edge of the band's later albums. In the end, "The Powerful Fully-Transistorized Dick Tracy Two-Way" makes it all worthwhile, with a title that demands taking home to bed. ~ Dean Carlson, All Music Guide
