About This Album
A sobered-up Mustaine returns with yet another lineup, this one featuring ex-Cacophony guitar virtuoso Marty Friedman and drummer Nick Menza, for what is easily Megadeth's strongest musical effort. As Metallica was then doing, Mustaine accentuates the progressive tendencies of his compositions, producing rhythmically complex, technically challenging thrash suites that he and Friedman burn through with impeccable execution and jaw-dropping skill. Thanks to Mustaine's focus on the music rather than his sometimes clumsy lyrics, Rust in Peace arguably holds up better than any other Megadeth release, even for listeners who think they've outgrown heavy metal. This is by far one of the best Megadeth albums to be released, there's not one bad song on the thing. But the pure genius songwriting placed into it is insane. Love Holy wars, love Tornado of souls, love Hanger 18, plus take no prisoners. this is a Must Have, for any Metalhead

Not a weak track in the bunch here! It starts out kicking and screaming with Holy Wars ... wow, that song got me hooked into Megadeth! Dave and Marty meshed so well together and Nick Menza, an incredible drummer who holds it together. Tornado of Souls and Polaris, both JUST incredible! I think Lucretia is a way underrated track as well ... this is the consummate metal album!

By far the greatest thrash metal album of all time. Marty Freidman is greater than god, and Menza just KILLS those drums on tracks like Take No Prisoners. If mustaine had just stayed together with those 2 then who knows what other pure genius they could have created. And holy wars, oh man holy wars, the ending of that song is like crack for my ears, hurts them like hell but oh so pleasing :). Man i cant listen to that song without freaking out. PURE GENIUS!!!!!! ! !

By far, "Rust In Peace" is my favorite album. Every song is just amazing. Dave Mustaine is a really good guitar player, but Marty Friedman is GOD. He doesn't do "solos", he does "soul-os". Awesome guy. Tornado of Souls has to be my favorite song, just because of that awesome solo by Friedman. Quite possibly the best thrash album of all time, if not, it is at least in the top 3.

One of the best metal albums of all time.... but I have to agree on everyone with the "de-masterin g " thing. When I heard Polaris, Dave's voice was like nails in my ears.. I'm so glad I have the original.

Not the same as the original, but still a landmark record. The title track is generally underrated and may be my favorite on the album. Gotta love those stop and start riffs...

What happened Is Dave getting deaf He was one of the best at combineing actual vocals with metal hard pounding riffs and musical ability I am a fan and always will be but come on

Rust in Peace is one of the best metal albums of all time. At least the not re-mastered one.

Just heard "Take No Prisoners" and nearly vomited when the vocals started. Ruined the song with the remaster...

Sadly, when Dave went back and remastered this one, the master tapes that contained the vocals were missing for Five Magics, Take No Prisoners, and Polaris. So he had to use crappier alternate takes, which is why those songs kind of blow in the remaster.

It's a pity that Dave is the singer, or I'd really love Tornado of Souls. Great everything but vocal tone.

After hearing 'Poison Was the Cure' I am glad that I own the origianl version of the record. Mustaine's voice is actually in the way of the instruments and the sped up guitar jars the ears of longtime fans much more than the record RISK ever could. Much like the re-recording of 'A Tout Le Monde', there is simply no reason for this. I ask that people new to Megadeth not judge the band's quality based on these (largely) unnecessary and counterprodu c t i v e remasters.

Five Magics is horrible! And the sound.... man, what a pity! Rust in Peace was a breakthrough for Mustaine and a prime example of great production, superb sound quality and musicianship . The "remastering " sounds more like a "de-masterin g " . Sorry Dave, but I very much rather keep the old version. |

i don't really know why, but Dawn Patrol sounds very familiar im not trying to point anything out, just i've heard this song somewhere. anyways, i would like to find a copy of the original Rust in peace

Five Magics just came up. Dave actually went in and re-did the lyrics for the whole song and it is absolutely horrible. This was always one of my favorite Megadeth songs. As much as I respect Dave for his views - plus the fact that he continues to release new music and tour 20 years after his commercial (and artistic) peak - he shouldn't have messed with Rust in Peace.

yeah, what a waste of time and money, Dave. This was my favorite album for content and sound quality. now it sounds worse than the first album.

Don't fix it if it's not broke!!!! Remaster Rust in Peace? Just not necessary. It was perfect before.
