Creation Dream
About This Album
With this release, jazz guitarist Occhipinti tackled the songs of Canadian singer/songwriter Bruce Cockburn. Cockburn himself has had jazz composition training and many of his songs have jazz textures and complex arrangements. This lays a firm groundwork for Occhipinti's instrumental interpretations and the resulting album is a successful combination of faithfulness to the original works and experimentation. Arranged for a core trio of guitar, bass, and drums with guests, Cockburn's songs are re-created and reborn without losing the spirit of the piece. It doesn't hurt that Hugh Marsh and Jon Goldsmith, who have played on many Cockburn tours and recordings, are featured on the album (in fact, Goldsmith is the producer) and that Cockburn himself makes an appearance. From the wild and chaotic take on the title song to the moody "Live on My Mind," Creation Dream is an album worth seeking out by any fan of jazz, Occhipinti, or Cockburn. ~ Rob Caldwell, All Music Guide
