Velvetina
About This Album
His godfather was Picasso. He's appeared in a Pedro Almodovar film as a transvestite. His videos have been banned throughout Latin America. This should give newcomers to Miguel Bosé's avant-garde brand of Latin pop music an idea of what to expect. Do not look for flamenco riffs or upbeat tropical rhythms here. An international pop star with over 21 albums and 35 films to his credit, Bosé does not approach music in any of the expected ways. An arresting package of 14 tracks and 13 video clips, Velvetina is a great example of the singer's unusual music. Performed in Spanish with some English phrases thrown in, the CD brims with electronica elements, experimental vocals, and divergent melodies. The DVD is equally quirky, with lots of bizarre symbolism, black-and-white images thrown in with color, and jerky movements. Velvetina would intrigue the familiar Bosé fan, but this is not an accessible CD for the novice. ~ Rosalind Cummings-Yeates, All Music Guide
