The musical touchstone for the British trio Muse is obviously Radiohead and that fact is crystal clear from the smoldering opening cut, "Sunburn." Their John Leckie-produced debut, Showbiz, is strong on angst-filled vocals, esoteric lyrics, and dramatic shifts in sonic dynamics. Hailing from rural England, singer/guitarist Matthew Bellamy, bassist Chris Wolstenholme, and drummer Dominic Howard average 20 years of age, so there's plenty of potential for them to grow into a sound that is more of their own. In the meantime, Bellamy does an impressive job of aping the quirky, nervous vocal tic of Thom Yorke on songs like the mid-tempo, Mellotron-driven "Muscle Museum," and he cuts loose vocally on the soaring "Cave" and on the lovely, mournful ballad "Unintended." Showbiz hints at the potential in this young band, and it should be of interest to many Radiohead fans. ~ Tom Demalon, All Music Guide
who the f**k seriously thinks they sound like radohead? they don't sound nearly the same. theyre both incredible bands (arguably the best band out there) but they are NOT radiohead ):< they need a new album description.
Tomb, technically Liz is right. Yes this album came way before the movie, but the author of the book was inspired by this album while she was writing it.
And last time I checked this album was from 1999, not 96.
Matt Bellamy does his own piano recordings. Though when performing live he will only play the piano during the big piano songs like New Born or Space Dementia the rest of the time their friend Morgan will play on the background synth for smaller piano parts that aren't as complex.
one of the best muse albums ever created, and on it is my favorite song- Unintended. For the raw version (which s better in my opinion) look for their record called "haarp"
Muse does sound very different now, but this a discography. The author is only saying that this particular album has heavy influences from Radiohead, which is correct. This discography is exact, and the author by no means puts Muse down, he simply states that they have time to mature out of the shadow of Radiohead, which they have done.
I totally agree... Muse and Radiohead aren't sounding that much alike after BH&R and Absolution...my fave albums go in order of a tie between BH&R and Absolution, followed closely by Showbiz, and then Origin of Symmetry.
it is true that Muse has some radio head roots but this does not meen they suck they have come a long way and people need to exept that Muse is their own band and that they are amazing Just because something was first does not meen it is always better
