This collection of work from the little-known Jamaican singer Nicky Thomas gathers most of his best songs in one package, including the wonderful title track "Love of the Common People," which, with its infectious island rhythm and thick string arrangement, practically defines the term pop reggae. One of his most important songs, however, is not included here, the derisive "BBC," a brave manifesto that rails at the way Radio 1 stations treated Jamaica's reggae artists. That omission aside, a better assemblage of Thomas tracks is unlikely to pop up, so this is the one to get to sample this unique singer. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
