OK not a Beatles comment but did I actually read "Solo Artist" syndrome assigned to P. Simon?? Wow - 1. P. Simon was 100% responsible for all S&G Garfunkel sang a few harmonies thats it 2. Simon's solo material is genius (and a little project called Graceland)Im a John fan (hard rocker) but CBASS is right Paul was awesome and an underrated Bassist he was the real musician- WHAT a treat to hear Beatles Live at all - Most Beatles songs were 90% one and flourishes from other -
This album is truly terrible. Super cheese. I love Paul's work with the Beatles but his solo stuff and his stuff with Wings makes it seem like him and Ringo were having a contest to see who could make worse yuppie cheese crap after the beatles broke up. The album cover was pretty clever. IF28.
Paul had a sheepdog in the sixties also, Martha of "Martha My Dear". Lennon wasn't selfish, all the Beatles were more than ready to break up at the time they did.
I personally love Paul. My favorite of all four of the Beatles. And the album cover is funny. Did you guys all notice that the dog is where john should be? Too funny. Don't get me wrong I love John Lennon too, but I think that if he wasn't so selfish we mightv'e had the Beatles for a little longer.
We will never see anything like the Beatles again! Truly a life changing time with life changing music. Oh, how much of all that makes me who I am today is truly mind boggling!
i think john, paul, ringo, and george were all better together, but i'm fine hearing them on their own. it's not quite the same, but still, i'll take what i can get!
THE BEATLES ROCK,ALL OF THEM TOGETHER AND ON THERE OWN. THEY ARE SPECIAL,I HATE READING PEOPLE SAYING ANYTHING NEGATIVE ABOUT THEM. MAYBE ANYONE THAT HAS SOMETHING BAD TO SAY SHOULD LISTEN TO THERE SONGS MORE,MAYBE IT WILL GIVE YOU MORE PEACE.
mdc27. Many, many musicians cite Paul as one of their primary influences, if only for his pioneering bass playing. People hang in different circles, so you may not be aware.
It's a matter of preference. John wrote music that was not as mainstream, that's why musicians tend to lean towards Lennon. Paul wrote "pop" songs, hence the reason why he has so many of the Beatles #1 albums. Throw Harrison into the mix and you've got the greatest band ever and for good reason. Ringo never wrote anything except maybe Octopuses Garden. Ever notice how often you hear musicians say they were inspired by Lennon, you rarely hear any musician say that they were inspired by Paul.
Isaac, actually this was McCartney's 2nd tour, in 1993, which used a lot of the Beatles music. The first was in 1989, for Flowers in the Dirt. Yeah, he sang Beatles music when touring for Wings, but that was back in the 70s, and the Beatles music then didn't take center stage.
A Thrill because Mac hadn't done a lot of Beatles stuff until breaking out with this album. Over the years, though, he's doing it by rote. Forget the John vs Mac debate. The Beatles were exponentially bigger and better together than any of the individual members.
I wish Mac would do some covers of artists he admires from the 70's 80's and 90's. Surely there must be songs he wishes he'd written!
The bottom line is Paul is the only game in town to hear live Beatles tunes by a Beatle. Ringo isn't putting together anything to compete. I'm puzzled why he hasn't joined the Paul’s band to further authenticate the Beatles aspect of the show. I'm not saying replace the drummer, but have a show divided up into two halves. Have Ringo on drums for the first half, doing all Beatles material (even get, say, Jeff Lyne on guitar). After, do post-Beatles material. I'd see that show!
The Paul vs John debate is so tired. Focusing on this album, I like a few of the tracks on here ... mainly, the Chet Atkins, Good Rockin' Tonight, and Kansas City. The Beatles covers are fine, sure, but I love it when Macca revisits the tunes that inspired him. The live versions of tunes from his album are mostly forgettable however. If he was going to showcase stuff from 'Off the Ground' why did he leave off 'Get Out of My Way'? Cheesy as all get out, yes, but a fun one to listen to.
Paul McCartney unfortunately suffered the "solo artist" syndrome...the same as his namesake Paul Simon. When they got off on their own, they just really weren't quite as good as when they were with their mates (Simon just definitely got weird). Gotta agree with Jay Roy and Tedbujalski on this.
...jay roy's on to something...when the band first got a record deal they went out and got the best ( not Pete ) drummer they knew and played as a BAND....
Paul.John. O'kay we can disagree on who was better, but let's remember The Beatles were 4 - just because the other two did not steal the light - George and Ringo - These two artist did provide thier talents to bring The Beatles to the fore front - w/o a drummer no beatle - and this is coming from a drummer.

For the 'John wrote all the good stuff' folks. I'm a Beatles fan, and particularly a HUGE John Lennon fan. But you've got to give Paul his due. The two tightly collaborated a lot in the early days, but as time went on, it changed to where one was the primary writer and the other may or may not have augmented in some ways. If you research who wrote what, you'll find Paul was at least as prolific as John - probably more so. And the quality of the work was AMAZING. It's all great.
actually "ladymercy" at the time this album was released the only one who had died was John. I'm not saying that john's death was not a horrible loss to the world it's just that george was still around
This album is just weird, I mean yea he's alive...yea there was a "stunt" but considering most of them have passed away...it seems in poor taste to me to not only have your cover(match the demographics) almost mocking them with a dog?! WEIRD to me!?
Exactly right, "Artistic One."
And will you idiots please shut up about how "John Lennon wrote all the best songs"--all of their best songs were a collective effort by the entire band; one of them would come up with the main idea, tune, or whatever, and the rest of them would complete it. So, while it may be true that Lennon MAINLY wrote most of their best songs, it is also true that he was never nearly as good alone as he was with Paul, George, and Ringo.
To you silly whiners commenting here. Get over it.
John is dead. Paul is not dead yet. (Though almost forty years ago a bogus marketing stunt indicated that Paul was dead.) He wasn't.
You might not want to admit it but albums such as this are about as close as we will ever have to hearing old Beatles songs from a fresh source... from an ORIGINAL BEATLE!
Lennon will never record any Beatles stuff, ever again. Sad but true. Even when he was alive he rarely played Beatles material. Paul is live.
Would have been cooler if the Paul is Dead was true. Wait, I guess this would have never been released. Oh wait that would have been a good thing. JOHN LENNON FOREVER
