Perry Joslin Project
About This Album
Smooth jazz pianist Perry Joslin's debut album, Perry Joslin Project, is a sophisticated and engaging collection of all-original material. Although Joslin spent much of his working life in the business world, the former Ohio Wesleyan music grad continued to perform jazz and fusion throughout his career. An adept pianist whose crisp and harmonically interesting piano chops call to mind both Bob James and Dave Grusin, Joslin also reveals a knack for memorable compositions here. Notably, "Florida Breeze" is a mix of soft melodicism and a driving rhythm reminiscent of guitarist Ed Johnson's Over That Wave, while the atmospheric ballad "Indigo Falls" calls to mind both Kind of Blue-era and '80s pop Miles Davis. Joining Joslin is a stellar cast of relatively unknown musicians, including trumpeter/flügelhorn player Jason Carder, saxophonist Ed Calle, drummer/programmer Lee Levin, guitarist Dan Warner, and others. ~ Matt Collar, All Music Guide
