Waits And Measures
About This Album
Pete Robbins' music is consistently intriguing. The rhythms are complex and sometimes rock-oriented though usually more subtle. The improvising by altoist Robbins and Sam Sadigursky on tenor and bass clarinet seems free at times but is often quite melodic and tied in to the individual themes. Robbins' originals are quirky and unusual although not individually memorable. But the freewheeling yet controlled mood of the music is quite original and the main reason that Waits & Measures is recommended. In addition, Elliot Krimsy's versatility on electric piano is an asset. It would be interesting, though, to hear how Pete Robbins dealt with stronger melodies ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
