Wish You Were Here
About This Album
Pink Floyd followed the commercial breakthrough of Dark Side of the Moon with Wish You Were Here, a loose concept album about and dedicated to their founding member Syd Barrett. The record unfolds gradually, as the jazzy textures of "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" reveal its melodic motif, and in its leisurely pace, the album shows itself to be a warmer record than its predecessor. Musically, it's arguably even more impressive, showcasing the group's interplay and David Gilmour's solos in particular. And while it's short on actual songs, the long, winding soundscapes are constantly enthralling. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

Pink Floyd the best band of all time!!!! When this came out I was in my teens and it was magic.
I remember racing out to get this album as soon as it came out, coming home, putting it on the turntable, and being totally blown away as Shine On You Crazy Diamond slowly revealed itself. Truely a masterpiece. It still stops me in my tracks whenever it comes on.

Alot of us (including me) have spent too much time arguing over which Pink Floyd album is best. I have realized that in these albums (the Waters era albums) the brilliance of them is all relative to your understandin g . Duh. Some people get more out of The Wall than others, while some people get more out of Dark Side. This is simply because different people appreciate different elements of PF. As f

Fantastic. Every rock guitar player (hell, maybe even every rock fan) should give this album a chance. Put it on and let Gilmour teach you how to play.

if we're all arguing personal opinions like they're scientific facts, then i choose Meddle. of course, that's just me.

I completely agree with pnbelfi: Dark Side, Wish You Were Here, & Animals are their 3 best, and it's impossible to say which is the best of the 3.
I couldn't disagree more with Jacob. The Wall is a good album, but may be one of the most overrated and overplayed albums of all time. Just because it's a double and concept album doesn't make it their best, much like The Beatles' White Album. |
I sort of disagree. Personally, The Wall is my favorite Pink Floyd album(theref o r pretty much making it my fav album ever) closely followed by Dark Side. It's just that The Wall is more concrete, with some throwbacks to the early space-rock days, while dark side, though it is an amazing collection of ideas and music, is sometimes too inaccesible. Wish You Were Here comes in close third, while still being one of my all time faves. Have a cigar is Classic, CLASSIC Floyd.

There is no one best Floyd album. It is a three way tie between Dark Side, Wish You Were Here, and Animals. Each album is exactly as good as the other two. End of story.
who cares how much it sells? all that matters is that the album is awesome
Ok, they are both good albums, along with just about everything else these guys created as a group or solo. But DSotM is the ultimate 'coming off age / first experiences with drugs' album. I think everyone can remember the first time they burned one with DSotM coming through the head phones? If you can't, relive it! It's TIMELESS! Great album for that late night-trippy party or solo w/ a J and headphones. Love all Floyd albums, but I prefer the earlier phsyc. albums. AHM, More, OBClouds, Meddle

for true it is quite whack this is all this album gets in terms of recognition
a lousy f**king paragraph for wish you were here! give me a f**kin bus pass

I agree with whillop (for a change). Album sales do not equate greatness. If that were true, than McDonald's would be the best food in the world. Also, I'm sure Wish You Were Here is multi-platin u m . Dark Side is excellent though, but it's hard to say which is better.
nonamehere ? Is an album better because more people have purchased it ?
I think that you may be a numbskull of the first order , or maybe just a dumbshit ! |
Dark side spent 14 years on billboard, and remains in the top five best selling records of all time. "Wish you were here" hasn't even gone platinum. Ya'll are overrating the album a bit.
i love how people argue about which album is better... you are an idiot if you don't like floyd in my opinion, and all they're work is great... nuff said :P
Wish You Were Here far exceeds Dark Side... and Dark Side is one of the best albums ever made.
Number one album off all time, each time I listen to a cut something goes pop in my heart
I don't know if it's better than Dark Side or not, but this album doesn't get its due compared to Dark Side. Unfortunatel y , as good as Dark Side is, it's WAY overplayed.
its funny how everyone like criticizes this album
too many people think its just not good enough to follow dsotm but honestly, i think this is even better |
Tremendous album. Hard to believe they followed Dark Side with something so amazing.
Awesome Album... Incredibly structured! One of my Ultimate favorites
Dark Side of the Moon was a hard act to follow, but Wish You Were Here is full of dynamite guitar riffs, keyboards, bass runs, time changes that set pink Floyd apart from any other band in the 70's. One of my favorite Floyd albums.
Pink Floyd album Delicate Sound of Thunder is the best album since Dark side of the Moon.
Back in the 70's I saw them in concert at Nassau Coliseum on Long Island and they premeired this alblum at the concert before any radio airplay, was blown away by it. Then they followed it with Dark Side, amazing show

This is an album you would choose out of your collection if you had to be stranded on a desert island.
If you can, see the Australian tribute band "Aussie Pink Floyd". In 2007, they performed ALL of Dark Side of the Moon as Set 1, and then did ALL of Shine On You Crazy Diamond (and then other hits). I was blown away, they were that close to the originals (who I have also seen). Word has it that the 2008 tour is The Wall plus other hits (One of These Days was amazing, let me tell you). |

i have a poster of this album art on my door cus its awesome ahahahahhaha
