What's The Name Of That Thang
About This Album
Quinn Golden's voice is a cross between Bobby Womack's and J. Blackfoot's; his rendition of Womack's "Woman Gotta Have It" is as soulful as the version by Womack. {Golden} is potent on shufflers, ballads, or uptempo numbers. "Peepin' in the Window" and the title tracks are peppy, upbeat sagas. The shufflers include "Woman," where Quinn brags about his lady, "Threesome," which is straight from the Jerry Springer Show, and "Damned If I Do, Damned If I Don't," which is a Tyrone Davis sound-alike. Also featured are two eye-wetting ballads: "The Way You Layed It on Me" and "Won't You Make Up Your Mind." You don't hear southern soul on the radio unless you live in the South, an indictment of AM and FM radio, and a crying shame. ~ Andrew Hamilton, All Music Guide
