Insert Band Here
About This Album
In 2003 the Recall label issued a pair of Rollins Band compilations, each collecting two early titles together in double-disc packages -- Hot Animal Machine/Lifetime and Hard Volume/Insert Band Here. The latter set sees the Rollins Band getting closer to the intense Black Sabbath-like sound of their breakthrough album, The End of Silence, while still packing the fury of earlier releases. Kicking things off with 1989's Hard Volume, the comp offers a sneak peek at two tracks that would be re-recorded two years later for Silence, "Tearing" and "You Didn't Need," as well as a slow-burning cover of Suicide's "Ghost Rider," plus one of the Rollins Band's best album openers, "Hard." Along with Soundgarden, the Rollins Band was one of the heaviest-sounding live bands during the late '80s/early '90s, and Insert Band Here, recorded during 1990 in Australia, doesn't disappoint; you get all the proof you'll need that the group was one of rock's top live bands of the era, as exemplified by such standouts as "Lonely" and a great cover of Cheech & Chong's "Earache My Eye." ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide
