Of late it is important to note that critics are simply people who listen to music that have an opinion. Some may wish to tout their musical lineage, but I know what sounds good to my ear and why I like what I like. Classical to Folk, I love it all. To label oneself an intellectual in a venue such as this is narcissistic at best and a patent lie at worst. It is not verifiable. The musicianship and vocals in this work are wonderful and the songs themselves have a delightfully etereal quality.
I agree. That's why we intellectuals (who tend to sway New Age anyway) don't read other people's opinions and find things out on our own. We will not be fed opinions and biased garbage. So ignore them.
I have noticed a trend in the All Music Guide to just discount any music that seems even vaguely new-age. This results in highly negative reviews based entirely off of the music's genre, rather than off of its inherent merit.
In general, though, I have enjoyed all of the music from this album, and highly recommend it for studying. It is is peaceful, subtle, and melodic. I strongly recommend it for studying or falling asleep to.
Wow- the negativity is a bit strong--I don't like certain music, but try to keep an open mind--For a music critic especially...this isn't American Idol.
Reviews like this one piss me off. I can judge for myself whether I like it or not; I want to know what the band is like, not whether some critic thinks I should hate it. I did skip the song...but I was tempted to keep it around just to do the opposite of what that damn reviewer wanted.
Pandora pulls these in from All Music Guide. Pandora is objective in the way it delivers our music. All Music tries to *look* objective while pushing their own idea of what people ought to like.
i love The Reel... it sounds like it could be on Spyro: The Dragon (the game) and Legend of Mana, two great games I played when I was a kid. All kidding aside, it's a beautiful song. :3
