The Solo Anthology
About This Album
There's little question that this double-disc, 32-track collection is too much for most fans -- whether they're fans of Robinson's solo efforts, or Miracles fans looking to find a one-stop collection of his very best solo hits. Nevertheless, this could hardly be called anything but thorough, since it chronicles not only all of his crossover hits, but also urban soul hits, radio favorites, and album cuts. As such, it can be a bit much, particularly because only "Quiet Storm," "Being With You," "Cruisin," and maybe "Ebony Eyes" could be conceivably ranked among his best work, but this is certainly the most thorough and best overview of Smokey's solo recordings. And while it may be too much for the average listener, it's hard to imagine how this could be bettered for the serious fan. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
