The Sneakers, featuring a pre-dB's Chris Stamey and Let's Active's Mitch Easter were North Carolina's answer to Big Star and Cheap Trick, fusing catchy Byrds-esque riffs with the Anglo melodiousness of the Beatles and the pop complexity of Todd Rundgren and Joe Jackson. This remastered collection of their mid-'70s independent recordings serves as a great introduction to the careers that would follow, and a solid lesson in how to conjure two- to three-minute pop songs out of thin air and lodge them in a listener's brain for an eternity. ~ James Christopher Monger, All Music Guide
