Stone Poneys Featuring Linda Ronstadt / Evergreen, Vol. 2
About This Album
The Stone Poneys released three LPs for Capitol Records, 1967's The Stone Poneys Featuring Linda Ronstadt and Evergreen, Vol. 2 and 1968's Stone Poneys & Friends, Vol. 3, and this set combines the first two with the best tracks from the third outing to make what is essentially the only Stone Poneys collection anyone would ever need. All the key tracks are here, including the 1967 hit cover of Michael Nesmith's "Different Drum" that introduced Ronstadt to the world, fine versions of Tom Campbell's "Orion" and "2:10 Train," and capable performances of Laura Nyro's "Stoney End," Nesmith's "Some of Shelly's Blues," and Tim Buckley's "Hobo." Ronstadt, of course, went on to perfect the California country-pop sound with producer Peter Asher in the early half of the 1970s, but her much more folky beginnings are preserved here. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
