eschot3: If you mean ignored on "The Complete SR" album, that's because the Silvertone label didn't have rights to anything on Second Coming, as it was released on Geffin, aside from which Silvertone and SR did not part on good terms-- legal-beagle non-sense. But later, a comp covering both albums was released: the poorly produced "The Very Best of the Stone Roses". Best bet: get the two albums and The Complete SR for the non-album singles. Not that expensive. I picked up each one for 7 bucks.
24 hour party people was an awesome flick. I wish I was in my 20s in the 80's, I would have been a total club-rat because the music was the best. Most of my vinyl collection is 80s indie/punk/post punk stuff. Awesome decade for music.
I missed the whole 80's music scene, I was stuck with a bunch of friends that only listened to Zeppelin (Christ, I hate Zeppelin) and stuff like that. Then years later I heard "I Wanna Be Adored" playing in a store and that was it.
The movie "24 Hour party People" is a pretty good way to catch up on the whole Madchester scene.
I respectfully disagree--The Roses were legendary and the first album one of the best ever, but 'Second Coming' had only a handful of great songs. If they had all been as good as "Begging You" or "Love Spreads", it would have justified the years we had to spend waiting for it.
If you take Second Coming as just any album by any band, you would recognize that it is a great album. But the album was not from just any band, it came from the Roses. The first song is epic, then shortly after "Daybreak" keeps on the groove. Whats not to love. Just as "Up" from REM is a great album. Most people missed that one too.
