The Noble Art Of Teddy Wilson
About This Album
Living Era presents the perfect all-purpose Teddy Wilson anthology, with vintage recordings made between October 10, 1933 and November 19, 1946, a time period during which swing was the thing. Wilson is heard as a soloist, as leader of his own bands, and as a member of the Benny Carter Orchestra, the Chocolate Dandies and the Benny Goodman Trio. The collective instrumental talent represented here is positively awesome. The records Billie Holiday made with Teddy Wilson form the foundation of both of their early discographies. "I'll Never Be the Same" was wisely chosen to represent their exceptionally fine professional collaborations. Other great vocalists heard on this compilation are Mildred Bailey, Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horne and Sarah Vaughan. Each vocalist is heard only once, as part of a carefully maintained economy of selection that characterizes this excellent Teddy Wilson tribute album in its entirety. ~ arwulf arwulf, All Music Guide
