Velvet Darkness They Fear certainly has a distinctive sound, with Theatre of Tragedy's plodding goth-metal backing the almost death-metal rasp of Raymond Rohonyi and the feather-light Liv Kristine Espenas. However, the long songs tend to ramble a bit, and truth be told, neither vocalist seems especially powerful. All this is not to say that Theatre of Tragedy has no potential; they just haven't quite fulfilled it yet. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide
