The Bloco Afro carnival groups provide a recent take on roots drumming along with a conscious involvement in other Afro-centric musics. This zesty CD was sneakily programmed. The first couple of tracks are percussion all the way, then keyboards and guitar start creeping in, then gutsy trombones a la Willie Colon. But the percussion is always a major player in this rival to Olodum. ~ John Storm Roberts, Original Music, All Music Guide
