Under the guidance of producer Rick Rubin, Tom Petty turns in a stripped-down, subtle record with Wildflowers. Coming after two albums of Jeff Lynne-directed bombast, the very sound of the record is refreshing; Petty sounds relaxed and confident. Most of the songs are small gems, but a few are a little too laid-back, almost reaching the point of carelessness. Nevertheless, the finest songs here ("Wildflowers," "You Don't Know How It Feels," "It's Good to Be King," and several others) match the quality of his best material, making Wildflowers one of Petty's most distinctive and best albums. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

burkesr, i gotta jump in here. blind melon? one of the great grunge bands? come on. I saw soundgarden and blind melon open for neil young in 93. BM is no way in the top 4 let alone top 20 grunge era rock bands. they're not bad, maybe worth are relisten to see how their music aged, but I can tell you that live they were at a 4 out of 10, would impress in a bar but soundgarden came on second and blew BM away making you totally forget them. Neil on the otherhand was with steve cropper and booker t
I haven't heard songs from this album since 1998 but when You Don't Know How It Feels came up on my play list I immediately knew the lyrics. That's the power of Tom Petty. He's so great at painting a picture lyrically and musically that it becomes an unforgettable experience.
"WildFlowers, another great album released between '91'95. I may be biased but those years released some great rock albums. Anyone else think so?" A lot of that has to do with the short lived but tremendously popular grunge movement? I.E. the "greatest" grunge (Soundgarden, PJ, Blind Melon, Nirvana) albums could have only come out during that period, because that is the only period where the style existed. Just my theory, I was the ages of 4-8 during that time period
Good album, but really Pandora? Is this the only album you play? Mix it up! Haven't heard MJLD in two days but yet keep getting hammered with Wildflowers.
great record, along with the 'she's the one' soundtrack (more or less run off from this recording session) and echo. one of the few artists still around making substantial records and not pandering to the point of pitiful nostalgia (as has happened to countless other formerly great musicians)
