Human: His Golden Classics
About This Album
Pittsburgh-born Tommy (Charles) Hunt sang alongside Johnnie Taylor in The Five Echoes during the early '50s and then joined The Flamingos in 1956 and sang with them on Chess and End Records. In 1961 he signed with Wand/Scepter, where he recorded two best sellers, "Human" and "I Am a Witness" (both included). Of the remaining ten songs on this CD, "Your Man" and "Don't Make Me Over" are the two which stand out. Hunt had a very impressive style, which was too often wasted on poor material. He later gained reawakened success on Dynamo Records, but in 1967 chucked it all for life in Wales as an African-American Brit. There are decent book notes and average sound. It duplicates the English vinyl of the recent past. ~ Opal Louis Nations, Roots & Rhythm Newsletter, All Music Guide
