Opiate (Explicit)
About This Album
In retrospect, Opiate seems a little haphazard, but it's possible to hear the seeds of Tool's oppressively bleak, cerebral metal in such cuts as "Sweat" and "Opiate." The two live tracks, "Cold and Ugly" and "Jerk-Off," don't sound out of place, since they share the same churning riffs, black noise, and doom that characterize Tool's sound. This is not as developed as either Undertow or Ænima, but it's possible to hear the roots of those albums all over this EP. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

"sgt.pepper8 8 = d-bag" and he has a primus station! hahahahahaha h a h a h a h a . . . oh man, that dude totally has a mullet if he likes primus but not tool! haha. To comment on the album though, Maynard is still searching for confidence with his voice here. He almost sounds nervous on Jerk-off (live), but maybe it's that part in parentheses. |
Tool are whiny b**ches? That's the most ignorant description of Tool I have ever heard. You fail, sir. And you can check to see why something played on your station.
God I hate these guys. I cannot comprehend why these whiny b**ches showed up on my Primus station.

I like this album but this is by far tool's least complex album and that's why its not my favorite, to me every song on Aenima are groundbreaki n g even the tracks that are just there for mood.

I'll go ahead and agree with most people on here and say that this is their best album. Nothing since has had this much immediacy, power, aggression and an almost evil feel to it. Title track (+ bonus track) are still powerful enough to make me feel creepy. Good stuff.

i do not consider myself in any way a tool fan. but this is the execption. i like this album
all you yuppies who wake up at 430 in the afternoon to bust out your gitars to play tool songs. get a hobby that isn't so gay. You are the tools of the world. please give me a reason to thing otherwise |
I once heard about some kid who thinks this kind of thing sells out and sucks up to the man. How misinformed.
My favorite TOOL album too, but not by much!
They all fkuckin great! |
if consequences dictate my course of action then i should play god and shoot you myself
i love picking up my guitar and playing every song on this album. My favorite to play (not favorite on the album) is deffinetely jerk-off. bad a** riffs. TOOL KICKS A**!
All the other albums are great, but Opiate's guteral and raw sound is what hooked me many years ago. My favorite album of theirs.
BEST AND MOST REAL TOOL ALBUM OF THEM ALL. THEIR OTHER WORK PALES IN COMPARRISON TO THIS MASTERPIECE!

crez&nrotic, I'm glad you said that. Now, confronted by the sheer power of your intelligence , I know that I've been wrong to enjoy listening to Tool. (Not.) You don't feel right unless you're crapping on somebody else's conversation , do you. Keep it to yourself, MORON. Probably didn't even merit a comment...th e stupidity speaks for itself...but I couldn't resist.
This album is haphazard? Maybe. I like the raw edge it has, though. And it still shows Tool's talent. Amazing stuff. |
Best tool album. (except for anemia, undertow, lateralus, 10,000 days... wait they are all the best)
god i just love tool so much that i feel inclined to post a comment for every album! i'm glad i stole my step-dad's tool cd's so many years ago, even if it took me awhile to actually appreciate tool. what more can i say than i opened my eyes?
..'maybe it takes longer, to catch a total a** hole''but I'm tired of waiting'.... ' m a y b e it's just bullshit, I should play God and just shot you myself!' If you like hard, cerebral rock'n'roll it gets no better than TOOL! They are Floyd, Sabbath, King Crimson rolled into one. Thanks to them and Rage for making my high school parties ROCK!
Great album- it's interesting to see how Tool has progressed throughout the years starting with this one- and has never lost their greatness!
I am here again. Coz I think this may be the best TOOL release. Yes, I own them all...
DAMMIT ROCKS! |
