Highly ambitious, challenging, idiosyncratic, and confounding, Boys for Pele expands on the more experimental and progressive tendencies of Under the Pink. Amos frequently discards traditional song structures and employs wide-ranging, eclectic instrumentation in her music, while her lyrics seem to grow even more obscure, giving the album a very impressionistic feel. While there are certainly worthwhile moments, her experiments don't always work; some of the songs fail to stick, and it takes a few plays before many start to sink in. Ultimately, Boys for Pele is polarizing: Some Amos fans will only admire her more for taking the risks she does, while others may find to their disappointment that the intimacy and personal connection that helped Amos build her fan base are too difficult to detect. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide

By far my favorite of Tori's albums to date. It still has the raw songwriting of her early albums, but it incorporates all of that growth she's done along the way. While I often switch this one out of my car in favor of some different Tori, I always end up back at this one. Wail on.
I have been a tori fan since 1992. She is the artist who paved the way for others such as Alanis and Sarah Mclachlan. This is a great album and vintage tori, even the CD photos - breast feeding a piglet for example..
Tori's piano playing, singing, all comes together in this song and many others,i saw her on tv once, straddled on two piano benches, playing two pianos at once, awsome. If you can get a hold of Tori's 'Somewhere over the rainbow' live, get it,it brought tears and still does bring tears to my eyes
It's called "Boys for Pele". That alone makes it awesome. I only dislike one song- Professional Widow. It's actually the ONLY Tori song I DISLIKE. I don't know how I lived before Tori...
Definitely some of her best work. If you like the "girl and her piano" thing, you can't go wrong with this album. Plus, it still brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it... :)
