With five songs that Walsh views as "dust that needs to be cleaned up" from his catalog of unreleased tracks, Pollensongs is a pleasant continuation of his morose singer/songwriter fare. Although his full-length recordings are to be more strongly recommended, as his talents are more easily appreciated when viewed in their totality, the tracks hold together well even if they originated in different stages of his development. Each song unravels at its own languid pace en route to reaching an emotional or sonic climax, with previously unvisited instruments such as E-Bows and synthesizers turning up in the mix, most of which is provided by Walsh himself. With his stark and occasionally cryptic vision still present in intense focus, he seems more like the logical link between Will Oldham and Neil Young with every release. ~ Matt Fink, All Music Guide
