The Return Of Django
About This Album
This record from the Upsetters' catalog contains some of Lee "Scratch" Perry's best-known work from the end of his ska period. Included are tracks like "Return of Django" and "Cold Sweat," both significant hits for Scratch. Soon, very soon, Perry would move afield from what is here, moving toward something this record only drops dark hints of. For those who love the later stuff, this will make you shake your head at how far he came and how quickly. For those who like the sound of an earlier Jamaica, this record has its own rewards. [The album's 2003 Sanctuary/Trojan reissue included Pat Kelly's "Give Love a Try," the Ravers doing "Badam Bam," and six additional tracks from the Upsetters, five of them previously unreleased.] ~ Rob Ferrier, All Music Guide
