Unlike too many of his emo colleagues, Kyle Logghe (aka Verona) has a voice capable of meeting the significant demands he places on it, but he also distinguishes himself as someone smart enough not to push that capability to its limit on every song. He hits it hard on the opening track, a lovely six/eight number with tasteful strings and a swooning melody, and he does so again on the final number, which also soars beautifully in six/eight time -- at least until the bridge, at which point Logghe suddenly seems to lose his ability to sing in tune. Pretty much everything in between varies from very fine to downright great, from the jittery "Heart Like a Locomotive" to the powerfully chugging "Current Mile." Then there's the R.E.M.-meets-Clapton sound of "Swagger," which combines a white-boy blues flavor with 1960s metal crunch. This is an impressive debut. ~ Rick Anderson, All Music Guide
