There are promising moments on the Wallflowers' eponymous debut album, enough to suggest that the group was capable of the lean, contemporary folk-rock that would make Bringing Down the Horse such a winning record. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
This is such a fantastic and under-appreciated album. It was one of the first CDs I got, when CDs first started to come out, and through junior high and high school, I set it behind some total crap. It still shines pure sultry and genuine though. I've not been digging much rock (been picky) of late, but after having listened to 'Breach' and 'Bringing Down the Horse' and now the self-titled, all back-to-back, this is the album with the most spirit, and it's definitely the most fun to listen to.
