About This Album
We's fractious soup of ambient, dub, hip-hop, electro, and jungle is one of the more interesting products of New York's so-called "illbient" scene. Previously obtainable only on small-run and out-of-print compilations such as WordSound's Crooklyn Dub Consortium and Bill Laswell's Valis, We's warped, nomadic blend of styles and references is in full evidence on their Asphodel debut; a bold, accomplished collection of incessant gear-shifting which gives strength to the claim that America is finally waking up to the desktop electronics revolution. A few tracks betray the naivete of the group's (as well as the American scene's) youth, but the album's otherwise consistent quality suggests that it's really just a question of adapting the tools to a new, remarkably well-formed language. ~ Sean Cooper, All Music Guide
