This isn't a perfect roundup of ZZ Top's superstar years of the '80s, but it comes pretty close. It dips back into the '70s for "Pearl Necklace" and "La Grange," with a couple of selections from the post-peak '90s, but this does offer the MTV-era basics: "Gimme All Your Lovin'," "Sharp Dressed Man," "Rough Boy," "Tush," "My Head's in Mississippi," "Doubleback," "Cheap Sunglasses," "Sleeping Bag." What slows this record down are some new cuts and album tracks that don't deserve to be here, along with a remix, not the original version, of "Legs." Still, that may just be quibbling for some listeners, since the basics are all here, making this a good complement to the '70s-focused The Best of ZZ Top (although it would be nice if a definitive disc, with all the hits, would appear on the market). ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
The only thing i can say thats negative about this album is that it should have velcro fly on it instead of Legs... Otherwise as the poster before me says, this is a poorly crafted review. I usually dont expect music critics to know any more about music than film critics know about movies though, so i dont pay much attention to either
It dips back into the '70s for "Pearl Necklace?" That was from 1981's "El Loco" release. "Tush," listed as an 80's MTV staple? That came out on 1975's "Fandango." How can one write a review of an artists music when they can't get the timeline right. And to sderning...I think ZZ Top was discovered several years before Deguello, when they dropped "Tres Hombres" in '73 (La Grange ring any bells for you?) and the monster album that was "Fandango", which gave us "Tush," and "Heard it on the X."
Um, where would this band be without the titty bar? When the band started incorporating fuzzy guitars, they lost their soul. When the band got discovered (Deguelo), the game changed and chauvenistic meatheads were the target audience. In point are mindless compositions like Mississippi and TS Boogie. And remixing the drum tracks on the classics?! I can't even listen to it but will look at the whores on the album cover. SELLOUTS!
