One O'Clock Lab Band
Selected Discography
This has been the most instilling big jazz band to most musicians throughout te world for many years. It has been my favorite going way back. I remember when Lyle Mays, the key-boardest for Pat Metheny went to the University and wrot over 300 songs for Big Bands which influenced Many big Jazz bands all over to move on with the great sounds it lends to the Jazz world today. He won a Toni Award His senior year for one of those pieces, I don't recall which one, but some of the greatest Jazz Musici

The 1 o'clock lab band is and has always been great! Some of them played on weekends in a bar-b-que place just South of Denton, TX, and were a delight there, too. I miss hearing them and are so glad they're on Pandora!!

The Texas Lab Bands --Fantastic bombastic creative talents with echoes of Stan Kenton... so thankful recordings were made of these Lab Bands, magnificent music even today... could fool many in "blindfold tests" as to what classic band is blasting away... Thanks Pandora.com for including this significant music in your extensive library of big band jazz... priceless...

Thanks Pandora, just discovered 1 O'clock only to find that their longtime Director retired in 2008. Found a bit about the Band, director and recent tour online. I'm not as old as some of the previous bloggers, but the charts bring me back to the power and musicianship of my College Jazz Band Days in the 70's. As a sax player-I always loved the horn chills on the back of my neck-the physical experience of being part of the ensemble...t h e y blow me away. I'm hooked! Donald

I just turned 80 and have been a fan since the 50s! Leon Breeden kept it going and Neil continued with a tradition of excellence. Stan is smiling down on the continuing playing of his music. North Texas and Kenton were a good marriage!

Underrated.. . o r unrated? I don't know and I don't get it...this is swing and part-or ensemble writing and playing at its' best....too bad there isn't more...the sax solo is almost similar to a Bob Berg and I hear strains of the Mingus Big Band....the trumpets wail...as do the drums...hmm Louis Bellson style...thes e musicians are excellent.
