The 69eyes
Biography
The 69 Eyes, a very dramatic goth metal band, formed in the early '90s in Helsinki. A quartet influenced by Motörhead, the Stooges, the Dead Boys, and the Doors, as well as movies like The Crow, Lost Boys, and The Matrix, they released several albums throughout the '90s and early 2000s. They first went gold in their native Finland with 2000's "Gothic Girl" single, and from then on their popularity increased. An anthology titled Framed in Blood: The Very Blessed of 69 Eyes was released in 2003 and initiated another phase for the band. They released another full-length album, Devils, in 2005 with its sequel, Angels, following in 2007. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide

pandora has this station right and the blackest sickest metal stations-eve r y t h i n g else they screw up.

I thought they were TON when I first heard them, but after listening to most of their CD's I can tell the difference & I don't think they sound anything like Type O now.

i'm going to run away with you thru the dark and filty streets of Gravestone past the Cross and Knives and over the heath where the smell of blood reeks in all of ts perverted fullness and we keep running away from hope,salvati o n , s u n s h i n e and reason and were okay with that.

Not sure how this ended up on my 10,000 Maniacs station - but it was a nice change from the twangy acoustic I've been hearing all day. It would fit much more nicely on my Dead Can Dance station (which has quite a few goth seeds on it).

I think their music is best described as "goth n' roll." Most excellent music, "Blessed Be" and "Paris Kills" totally rock. "The Chair" is, by far, my favorite song. It goes without saying that Jyrki is smoking hot and has the most incredible voice--it doesn't come from his gut, it comes from his balls! I hate to admit that I actually like his voice more than Peter Steele's and that's saying a LOT!
|
||
Try adding their 'Angel On My Shoulder'; gets me every time I hear it. That singer (Jyrki 69) doesn't look physically substantial enough to produce that voice! How does he do it? Awwwwwwwwwww w w e s o m e .

69 Eyes debuted in 1989 out of Helsinki, Finland led by Jyrki 69 and didn't get a record out of Finland until 1999's breakthrough 'Wasting the Dawn'
Type O Negative came second hailing from Brooklyn, NY and led by Peter Steele in 1990 and didn't get their success until 1993's 'Bloody Kisses' .. In short, they're similliar music styles but not the same as eachother. |
||
LOL, this reminds me of when I was sure Backstreet Boys and In Sync were the same band; you NEVER saw them on the same stage at the same time! But these guys are definitely not Type O Neg--check out their videos on youtube!
|
||
Based on the dates in the bio, Type-O had to come first. Christian Woman was out in the early 1990s.

Love the goth-gloom sound, but who was first-69eyes or Type-O-Negat i v e ? Or are they the same as each other?
