I had the pleasure of being in the company of Ralph Mercado and Tuffy Sanchez when this whole thing was starting.It was the best of times.These guys played their hearts out. A time I will never forget.

Great musicians, Al Santiago,s idea. He was the owner of Alegre Records. They followed the footsteps of Julio Gutierrez and his Cuban Jam Sessions. In this recording we can listen to Chamaco Ramirez singer of Tommy Olivencia y Su Primerisima Orquesta. among others are Johnny Pacheco, Charlie Palmieri (musical director) Kako, Barry Rogers, Chombo Silva, Bobby Rodriguez, Marcelino Valdez, Dioris Valladares; who else?

I remember being at the village gate on a monday night when luis ramirez and his orchestra was there with El gran combo . It wwas near thansgiving about 83 or 84 . Both bands played their sets then they teamed up and played una descarga. The artistry of Louie on the timbales and the timbalero from El gran combo was engraved in my memory and heart for ever
