Anna Nalick
Biography
Her love of the Cranberries, John Mayer, and Fiona Apple is easy to hear when one listens to the poignant music of singer/songwriter Anna Nalick, but it's her beloved Blind Melon that had the most impact on her career. The California native had been recording demos on a cheap cassette recorder when one of her tapes ended up in the hands of former Blind Melon members Christopher Thorn and Brad Smith. The two were now a production team and with Eric Rosse -- a producer who had worked with another Nalick fave, Tori Amos -- they re-recorded her home demos in a professional studio. Two weeks later, Columbia Records contacted Nalick with an offer and soon college was put on hold. With an all-star cast of studio musicians, the 20-year-old recorded her debut, Wreck of the Day, released in April of 2005. An expanded version of the album was released in 2006, with the Shine EP following in 2008. ~ David Jeffries, All Music Guide

A couple of months ago I had never heard of her - a sad state that Pandora has remedied!

She has a fantastic voice. Soothing, with the ability to convey complex emotions in the way she sings. One of my favorite female voices. Probably one of my favorite overall, too. Definitely top 10 there.

Anna Nalick is a great singer and songwriter. I've had the privelege to meet her twice, and she is very real and down to earth. I wish she would release another album!

If you like this, you should check out Vanessa Kafka. Similar vibe. I think you'll dig.

I hear this song all the time. It's all over the radio. I've memorized most of the words to it.

She is the finest lyricist I have heard in 10 years. The slant rhymes, metaphors, images and sound is outstanding! Her voice is great! I think she writes like a female Springsteen in that she touches souls in a deep way. If she had a band as tight as the E Street Band she would be a super star by now.
|
||
it's "breathe" people not "breath" duh... but yes i'd say it is the best song on there...
|
||
Her songs are very relaxing and great to listen to. Much about them speaks to tough times people (especially girls) go through in their lives. I'd recommend her to someone looking for mellow music.

paperbag is one of my favorites. and "in the rough" is also stunning

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE Anna Nalick's song "Breath / 2AM"!!! This song says so much to my heart and I feel it is timeless!! I like song artists like Sinead O'Connor and Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits and Peter Gabriel and ISSA Bagayogo... Joe Cocker and Neil Young etc etc...."broa d genre' range of taste" and this song is HOT HOT HOT - makes me cry. I have a hard time remembering her name... I wish there were still DJs on the radio who would talk about the artists ... at least say their name!!! Anyway

Anna Nalick rocks. Stop comparing her to Jewel okay cuz she's nothing like her! So keep your opinions to yourself! I love all her songs. She also has mystical voice, it's so pretty, but melodiciful (made up word!),
|
||
Jewel - I don't think so at all. Anna has much deeper voice than Jewel, that's why I like her better
