As I Lay Dying
Biography
As I Lay Dying is a California metal-hardcore crossover band from San Diego, CA. The group formed as a trio in 2001 with vocalist Tim Lambesis, drummer Jordan Mancino, and guitarist Evan White, and shortly thereafter released Beneath the Encasing of Ashes. A split CD with the American Tragedy followed the next year. In 2003 the band signed with Metal Blade and released Frail Words Collapse. After the album's release, White left the band and the remaining core of the group, Lambesis and Mancino, drafted two guitarist to replace him, Phil Sgrosso and Nick Hipa, and also landed a bass player in Clint Norris. The new lineup recorded Shadows Are Security, released in 2005. As I Lay Dying next issued A Long March: The First Recordings in May 2006, which included their 2001 out of print debut, along with two versions of their songs from the 2002 American Tragedy split. The band then spent that summer on the Sounds of the Underground metal-hardcore tour alongside acts like In Flames, GWAR, Trivium, and Cannibal Corpse. Soon after, Clint Norris left to pursue life as a family man and Josh Gilbert replaced him on bass. With the addition of Gilbert's vocal harmonies, the band's sound became more melodic, and in August 2007, the group released their fourth album, An Ocean Between Us. ~ Wade Kergan, All Music Guide

@shizzycreep y c r a l w e r : As I Lay Dying is a joke, yes, to be honest, I think they're terrible (there's nothing worse than a series of tasteless breakdowns). However, if you ever give bands like Extol, Crimson Moonlight, Antestor, Vaakevandrin g , Slechtvalk, or Theocracy a listen, you'll see that not only can Christians play metal, but they can do it better than 75% of the secular bands that are playing in their chosen style.

Comfort Betrays makes me want to destroy something beautiful... a n d yeah that sucks they're christian but in my opinion they're still good. It's not like I only listen to music by Athiests and if you do you're a f**kin idiot.
@shizzycreep y c r a w l e r : LAWL. Your opinion that Christians "shouldn't be playing metal" is a complete joke.
.....After doing a little more research on this band... THEY ARE A DISGRACE... I thought they was alright but after finding out they are all christians that just drags them down. They souldn't be playing metal.... They need to do like their name and LAY DOWN AND DIE!
They started off good... Their first album was good but they are getting worse as they progress. They have the same sound as All that Remains and thats not kool at all...They can't compete with them in that style of music... The "Metal-Hardc o r e crossover band" isn't cutting it...
how can u not be inpressed with meshuggah, that statement right there made u sound retarted.... u try remembering all of those offbeat riffs with timechanges and doing it for a 7 minute song with 8 strings... and dont even get me started about their drummer
Saw them in Eugene, OR in January 2009 along with Protest the Hero, MyChildren MyBride, and The human Abstract. I'm not a fan of AILD really at all but they still played a really good show.
Oh good, I'm glad that nobody can say that I listen to and enjoy 'hardcore emo metal', because that might totally ruin my credibility. . .
aild is an amazing band. To me, I think that Nothing Left is their best song. This is just my opinion.
@vdecker: Yes, Meshuggah keeps the same tempo always...as well as several others at the same time. And as puff just mentioned, 8-string guitars in drop F. The Faceless is good, but I actually think Unexpect is more creative and original. Sloppier, yes, but it's forgiveable given what they do.
messhugga is amazing they use hybrid instruments and they play them well look into an 8 string guitar anyone? they were the first band to play in drop f and now EVERY band out there is trying to go that low and it pisses me off quite frankly
not a bad band. not great either. and im not impressed with meshuggah, their s**t is too similar and they keep the same tempo always. the faceless owns all over though for sure. listen to between the buried and me
...right...d o n ' t try...just do another breakdown, that's it. *SARCASM*
meshuggah really bothers me. they try to hard it seems. as i lay dying is so incredible and for being christian they sure make me want to hurt something.
Meshuggahs' vocalist isnt in it to see how low and brutal he can make his voice. Infact he can hold his screams out longer than iv ever herd and makes up for his weird style with briliant lyrics that send shivers down my spine every time i read them
@skateboarde r a j : Yeah, Meshuggah's vocalist annoys me too. Check out Textures though. They play the same style as Meshuggah, but the vocals are more along the lines of AILD.
AILD is sick. meshuggah's vocalist annoys me to the point i cant listen to them, everything else about them is great though.
willow is so full of s**t.i just wanna fuckn punch him in his p**sy.godsma c k can kiss as i lay dying's a** any day.
AILD is the first metalcore band i EVER listened to. insanely talented, sweet riffs, heart pounding vocals. just a fabulous band all around.
S**t, As I Ly Dying is good. Nothing spectacular or anything like Meshuggah or The Faceless but they good. Seen them in concert, put on a pritty good show.
OMG Pandora is going to kick me out for the rest of the month! I guess I listened over my 40 hour quota! So ghey!
Sreamo? get the f**k out of here with that s**t. AILD is at least metal-core, if not harder (it depends on t the CD). Screamo is for kids who get picked on in the locker room and wear eye liner.
Personally, I cannot stand too much screamo at one time, and I think their best song is "I Never Wanted", which I love because there really isn't a pattern. The song keeps changing and the entire thing is like the finale verses of a really good normal song. It's SO FREAKIN' AWESOME!

See? Moomoo is on board: moomoo007 says: 10-12-2009
"OMG, this is.......TRU E METAL! I'm going to delete all my other stations now." What are you doing today to promote TRUE metal? |

Rhapsody is actually pretty damn good. Not necessarily going to be everyone's favorite, but it is very good nonetheless.
Meshuggah is also extremely good. They are also the heaviest band in existence. I am going to maintain that claim until another band shows up that plays 8-strings in drop-F. |
rhapsody of fire. lol. that's some pretty stupid viking metal with opera-like vocals
As I Lay Dying and Killswitch Engage are my favorite bands.. closely followed by All That Remains and Underoath <3
