Audioslave
Biography
When Zack de la Rocha left Rage Against the Machine in October 2000, the band's future was put into question. Within months rumors flew that ex-Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell would replace de la Rocha. And gossip fueled truth, for Cornell joined the rest of Rage in the studio in May 2001. The mix was great and a musical bond was in the making: Cornell, Tim Commerford, Brad Wilk, and Tom Morello spent the next year writing and recording. By spring 2002, the foursome were no longer going by the Rage Against the Machine name and signed on for Ozzfest. But before the summer tour even got underway, Cornell quit the new project. He claimed it wasn't moving forward in the direction he'd hoped for. The breakdown didn't last, for Cornell rejoined by early fall. After tossing around the idea of being called Civilian, they settled on Audioslave. The single "Cochise," named for the great American Indian chief who died free and unconquered, hit radio in September 2002, and Audioslave's Epic full-length debut was released that November. The self-titled album eventually went multi-platinum on the strength of "Cochise" and the moody rocker "Like a Stone," and Audioslave supported it with gigs that included 2003 Lollapalooza dates.
Cornell, Morello, Wilk, and Commerford returned in May 2005 with Out of Exile, which debuted at number one on Billboard. That same month they played an historic show in Havana, Cuba, that marked that country's first outdoor show by an American rock band (that fall releasing the whole shebang on the Live in Cuba DVD). Exile continued the band's platinum-selling ways -- singles like "Be Yourself" and "Doesn't Remind Me" went to the top of the charts -- and the guys wasted no time following up with album number three, Revelations, in early September 2006. Work on the album took only five weeks, since most of the songs had been fleshed out live over the previous year. In 2007, shortly after the members of Rage announced that they would reunite for that year's Coachella festival, Cornell left Audioslave, citing both personal and musical differences, and leaving the state of Audioslave uncertain. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide

Wow, reading these posts is like looking at a Red Sox - Yankees article post boards. Does it really matter? Liking (or not liking) Audioslave has no relation to Rage or Soundgarden except in how we personally relate to the music & mucisians. You either enjoy or don't enjoy their work. Who cares if it was to make $$$ or not, or if the music reaches you on a deeper level or not, or if it was more or less politicized or not. If you don't enjoy it, listen to something else.

These guys were great but I don't think they ever intended to stay together long. I'm surprised they released as many albums as they did.

RATM is on a different page, true but this butt tart needs to reckoignize that RATM eats Audioslaves lunch all the f**king time. Audioslave is basically a monster created by Warner Bros., and Rick Rubin to rub it in Zachs face. Gues what though? Backfired like a mother f**ker because it costs money to keep this album alive and touring. Last year this band was in the red 2.7 mill dollars, meanwhile the cost of butt mints for Chris monthly continues to rise because he refuses to use toilet paper!

Hey f**k face Gabreil: STFU AND GTFO here. After you do that and you arrive at what every destination you choose I want you to do this: STFU AND GTFO there. Finally, when arriving at that new and farther location, take your f**king pinky finger then stick it in your little clitoris hole, the one where the pee comes out from. Finally, while doing that, pinch your nose and blow really hard so that your ears pop and hopefully the steam will release from your brain. ....

These comments are quite amusing. If so inclined, one can waste portions of their life reading various arguments for or against certain bands, all the while expecting to change someone's opinion. Anyways, I had the pleasure of seeing Audioslave twice. They are beyond comparison. Nobody plays guitar like Morello, nobody sings like Cornell. You don't have to like it, but I sure as hell do.
Saying that a band was only in it for money is pointless. They all are. That's like saying I only took my job to get money. No s**t. If the band didn't want the money they never would have signed the contract for the big bucks, made all those CDs, and tour around the world charging up to $120 a ticket (depending on who, where, etc). They would have stayed in the local scene and kept it all about the music.

This is the Audioslave page. I liked Audioslave because they had a unique sound. That means I identified them as different on the radio the 1st time I heard them. Yes, similar to lots of other stuff on the radio, but I liked these guys better. It is pointless to argue if they are better or worse than another band because there is no way to measure that. I think Cornell was better with Soundgarded and Morello was better with RATM, but I still like Audioslave.

I do agree with most Cornell fans that the solo timberland produced records are complete crap and its hard to see someone you admired so long become nothing more than a cashgrabbing joke who cares less about the art than he does $$$$$. As an original soundgarden fan who loved the first solo record and the first audioslave album I have lost alot of respect for chris but will still happily listen to him once he remembers his roots and starts making good music again.

First of all Shepard you should never call something pop-rock bullsh*t in the same breathe as you defend rage against the machine because rage was rap-rock and was way more pop than Audioslave who are a hard rock band. Its statements like that one that totally shred any credability that you might actually have when it comes to music. I personally feel that the debut audioslave album was pure genius and had not one bad song on it however the other releases were bland and pointless.

I'd have to agree with TGS, but I must say that this band kept Chris Cornell from doing stupid s**t like his album with Timbaland. It's more like he wanted to restart Soundgarden then make something new and the guys from Rage were up s**t creek without Zach. Like a Stone is a great song though.
This band ain't s**t with out the Zach, this is f**king pop rock bullshit! Listen to some real Rage a**holes!
am new to the artist, don't have much of a music background. they sound a bit tame, but good. great guitar, fantastic
I love rhcp and audioslave, but i never made a connection between them. Please dont compare soundgarden and audioslave, they are very different messages. Soundgarden had more of a message to it, and Audioslave was just great music.
I totally agree that pale dude. Chris's work with Audioslave out weights the work with soundgarden by so much more. I am a huge Chris Cornell fan! I like audio slave bc of the mixture of different styles of music u have the voice of soundgarden with the guitar riffs of rage its a beautiful flow of different ideas!
It's nice to be communists when you have loads of money, Rage Against the Machine? Ha, you are a machine a money making machine. Typical leftwing hypocrites.
Chris Cornell's voice is so nice...mhm.. and he's not bad to look at either! *wink*
I agree completely with chrismorris and fuzzyrosco. Audioslave is comprised of 4 extremely talented musicians. I listened to Superunknown , and IMHO, Chris Cornell did even better work with Audioslave than with Soundgarden, while the post-RATM crew seemed somewhat dumbed-down. But I think that's because their playing a erally different style of music with Audioslave, and you can still see the brilliance of all four musicians.
fuzzy- yes, I agree w/ you--at least you back up your opinions with some intelligence . . . d o n ' t try arguing w/ Baron Von Shithead-he suffers from MCMT....
That, chrismorrisg a m e d e v , is exactly what these people don't understand. When I listen to Soundgarden I don't even think about Audioslave. The same can be said about any combination of those bands.
I always find it interesting to read about people arguing back and forth about bands that were/had been/are composed of different members of other bands. It's really funny because people always try to express one current band loadout as being "better" or "worse" than what some other band did....why? Why cannot we simply enjoy what the current band is making and take it for what it is? Rage against the Machine, Audioslave, and Soundgarden are all wicked sweet bands in their own right and the s
Cornell is a good artist, no doubt, but the combination was forced and obviously not natural... No bond like the one seen in Rage.
And people are allowed to have their own opinions & views, but we should all learn how to agree to disagree in a civilized, respectful manner. If you can't let someone disagree with you without getting offended or defensive, then you either have some insecurity issues, or some control issues you need to work out. Either way, listen to some Rage; that might help... ; |
Audioslave is just that... An audio slave. They had nothing new or important to offer to music, and were just a product of commercial attempts at making $$$...
Zack had much more important things in mind than just making music, LIKE ACTUALLY TRYING TO BE ACTIVE IN THE WAY OUR WORLD IS SHAPED. Because of that he left, and upon his return was not welcomed by the mainstream radio. Plain & simple... There is no way any band can ever come close to what Rage did and what they stood for. |
Lets try and use that thing between the ears before we try and battle wits with me, what do ya say "fuzzy"?
I didnt start this in a childish, insulting fashion with you...but since you seem to want to devolve this to grade school level argument, i will at least educate you as to what I am trying to say. Since you seem to need some help with your reading comprehensio n . . . . |
fuzzyrosco - your an idiot for one reason that I can see now.
You failed miserably and UNDERSTANDIN G what I wrote or meant and took it INCORRECTLY to fit your own personal argument against me.... Where did I say that I believe the Govt LIKES IT when we express? Or that I think we have FULL Freedom? and here is where you really failed the worst- look at what I wrote I said RAGE was hardcore and Gritty, and SoundG. Dark, heavy n cerebral. Audioslave didnt acheive either |
You're an idiot, for two reasons. 1: You think the government likes it when you express your opinion and that you have full freedom of speech, and 2: You DON'T think Audioslave is, in your words, "hardcore and gritty." Cochise, Gasoline, Set it Off, Show Me how to Live and Your Time Has Come just to name a few.
