Biography
The members of metalcore outfit Avenged Sevenfold (or A7X) were still attending high school in Huntington Beach, CA, when they formed their band in 1999. Nevertheless, it didn't take long for M. Shadows (vocals), Zacky Vengeance (guitar), Synyster Gates (guitar), the Reverend (drums), and Johnny Christ (bass) to make an impression with their aggressive hybrid of metal and punk-pop. The band made its official debut in July 2001, releasing Sounding the Seventh Trumpet on the Good Life label before moving to the Hopeless roster for 2003's Waking the Fallen. Warner Bros. took interest in the band's aggressive sound and issued its breakthrough release, City of Evil, in June 2005. The album reached number 30 on Billboard's Top 200, propelled in part by the Top Ten success of the single "Bat Country." The accompany music video was heavily rotated on MTV and Fuse, where live appearances also helped boost Avenged's growing profile, and the band ultimately won the Best New Artist Award (though they were hardly newcomers) at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards.
As demand for their music increased, Avenged Sevenfold canceled their tour dates for fall 2006 and decamped to Houston, TX, where they set to work on a fourth studio album. Boasting a grittier sound than previous releases, the self-titled/self-produced disc appeared in October 2007, debuting at number four on the Billboard Top 200 and spinning off the radio single "Almost Easy." The album also fared well in England, where three songs cracked the Top Five of the U.K. rock charts, and Avenged Sevenfold helped support the release by touring North America on the Taste of Chaos tour. Released in September 2008, the CD/DVD package Live in the LBC and Diamonds in the Rough captured the band during a tour stop in Long Beach. ~ Christina Fuoco, All Music Guide

Chi, what religious views? seriously? only a few songs of theirs have a religious meaning. even then they arent preaching, just telling a story. Beast and the Harlot is a story based on the fall of babylon in the book of revelations, for example. and to everyone, as a HUGE fan, i dont classify them in any genre. they do what they want to do musically and they dont give a F**K what people say.

I like how they used to claim to be inspired by their "religious" views until they released City of Evil, whenever they traded the band's Christian overtones for zombie strippers.
I love metal because I like music that is gloomy, intelligent, intense, and atmospheric: something that separates it from most other genres. Avenged Sevenfold annoys me because they contradict the message, among many other qualities, behind good metal. Another thrash invasion is long overdue, methinks. |

I understand that being a musician is a career and that, like with every other career, money is incentive. However, they seem ingenuine, and that sucks.
Avenged Sevenfold is the modern equivalent of 80's hair metal: image based, lack of subtance, and an exaggerated focus on social climbing, anoemic, scenehag-gut t e r w e n c h p**sy who'll basically "date" any average douche with snakebite piercings and/or a band, so long as you can support her adderall addiction for her "modeling" career. |

ok so do you even understand the complexities of music and all of the rhythms? some people just go off of the lyrics and not the harmonious structure. dont get me wrong the lyrics are important but i think it should be more about the musicality of the band

i really like the harmonics that they have... and the rev is f***ing amazing in my mind i do agree with the fact that city of evil is better the the self named album but i do like the harmonics in critical acclaim ... and shadows is HOT

rev is talented.... also shadows cant scream any more and his singing sounds below average. They did evolve with city of evil. That was an awesome album; however, their self titled was such a step backwards. It was cheezy, not well thought out, and lacked that something special that city of evil had. Also in regards to gates shredding, he is good, but not amazing. During songs and rehearsed stuff he is awesome for the most part; however, he does this improv thing every now and then live,nasty.. .

Y'all can say what you want about these guys, they evolved in an industry that demands it. The bottom line is, none of you can play like Gates, None of you can sing (or scream) like Shadows, and none of you motherf**ker s could even come close to drummin like the rev. These guys have more talent than most and talent is something you can't take away. So suck it up.

m. shadows didn't blow out his voice. been to several concerts of theirs. he still screams, and it sounds amazing.
a7x is an amazing band whether they are metalcore, punk, or whatever genre you want to label them. at least they write their own songs, and they also produced their self proclaimed album practically on their own, which most bands can't say. |

I absolutely heart this band with all my soul. My fave album is Waking the Fallen *shouts out to all believers*, but I've never heard them go wrong. Btw, I totally stalk Zacky V, just so you know. XD
