Between The Buried And Me
Biography
Between the Buried and Me is a thinking man's hardcore unit hailing from Raleigh, NC. The band began in 2000 after the dissolution of vocalist Tommy Rogers and guitarist Paul Waggoner's previous group, Prayer for Cleansing. Rogers and Waggoner completed their new lineup with the addition of guitarist Nick Fletcher, bassist Jason King (ex-Azazel), and drummer Mark Castillo, formerly of Bury Your Dead. An eponymous debut soon appeared, issued through the German indie Lifeforce, and the band supported its release with an avid tour schedule. Between the Buried and Me signed with Chicago hardcore powerhouse Victory in the summer of 2002 and began work on their debut for the label. The Silent Circus appeared in late October of the following year; it showcased a more focused fusion of the group's math rock, heavy metal, and post-hardcore influences.
Several lineup changes ensued that saw Rogers and Waggoner being rounded out by guitarist Dusty Waring, bassist Dan Briggs, and drummer Blake Richardson. Joining forces with producer Jamie King, who had recorded their self-titled effort, Between the Buried and Me released Alaska in September 2005. Various tour dates with the Dillinger Escape Plan, Every Time I Die, Bleeding Through, and Haste the Day followed. The band next paid tribute to many of their influences -- from Pantera to Queen to Pink Floyd -- on the covers album The Anatomy Of, which surfaced in June 2006, before hitting the road on a subsequent headlining tour. That fall, Victory reissued The Silent Circus with an additional bonus DVD of material. In 2007, they went to the studio with producer Jamie King and recorded Colors, which was released that September through Victory Records and described as "new wave polka grunge" by the band. The Great Misdirect, the band's fifth studio album, appeared two years later. ~ Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide

ihatepopups9 9 : they will definitely surpass dreamtheater sometime in their career if not yet. they still have a lot of time, they're still in their 20's. can't wait for the new album!

My Favorite band since they got together, will most likely remain that way.

Everyone here should definitely check out Unexpect. It shares that same feeling that Colors leaves you with that goes something along the lines of: "This is some pretty sick metal...what the heck?...Is this... polka?", but in a much more violent, brain raping way (and without the polka, but more in sudden stylistic changes).

Godsmack is one of the most non metal bands out there you soulless f-er. I would call them hard rock at best. Yes, they make millions of dollars doing what they do. That is only cause there are mindless people like you who can only comprehend very little. Grow a pair and listen to BTBAM(this, by the way, is an acronym for one of the all time best bands) BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME!!! Ding Dong

One of the best!!! I f-ing love this band. From start to finish on every album. Not many bands can do that. For fans of BTBAM, I recommend my b-friends band, Journal. myspace.com/ j o u r n a l m u s i c

i love there music its so intricate and fantabulous!

Colors is the greatest album of all time. BTBAM ties with (perhaps surpasses) Dream Theater as the greatest band on the face of the planet.
The fact that he can sing higher than anyone alive makes Tommy Rogers amazing. Aspirations on Colors Live. Chills every time. This band is my favorite and I still haven't found an album that can top Colors. Pure genius.

Re: some comments saying "it's too bad they're not Christian". So what if they are or aren't Christian. These guys are proclaimed vegans. At their show, they wrote "VEGAN" on one of their stacks with masking tape. I think that being openly vegan has a lot more impact and frankly has a stronger message than being openly Christian (since Christianity has become corrupt lately due to politics and internal forces).
Besides - These guys are all virtuosic musicians, convey powerful messages thro |

This band is just pure bliss. They are by far my favorite band. As well as Bayside and All Shall Perish.
Decade of statues is my favorite song by BTBAM. If you type it out and don't type fast , their name seems long. Between the buried and me rocks!
they can pull the s**t off live too, which is the best part.... insane band
this band is perhaps the best ever, and colors is def a masterpiece. I agree that backwards marathon is perhaps one of my favorite from them though, the transition from that high note he hits into the brutalness which is btbam is amazing!
serenade - Backwards Marathon is definitely one of their best - lyrically and compositiona l l y
dont forget backwards marathon easily their most underated song
I agree with Andrew Ng, but I also recommend "White Walls", "Prequel to the Sequel", "Mordecai", "Ad A Dglgmut", and "Destructo Spin"!!!!!! Enjoy!

"universe created > earth forms > humans evolve > guitar invented > BTBAM forms > BTBAM releases "Colors"
Perfection achieved. best. album. ever. " True Fact |
BTBAM blends passionate screaming with rampant drums and insane guitar work to create masterpieces like Colors. Alaska, Selkies: the Endless Obsession, and Ants of the Sky are must to anyone wanting to listen to them.
my 1st time even hearing them was live with COB and Black Dahlia Murder and this BTBAM was 1 thing... KICKASS. i got a couple of there cd's and rock it out. live is the best they bring out the mosh out of the crowd
def one of my fav bands, next to protest the hero and the human abstract. they are ridiculous, with great lyrics and music. see them live if you havent, it is a real treat.

I love btbam. Yeah, they make great music without being Christian.
So, why say that if God doesn't exist? I'm not trying to debate, I really just want to know why. I always hear people say stuff like that and it doesn't make sense, so I was wondering. |
why the hell would they go to christian metal? i say f**k god, he doesnt exist. but i agree with Welsh, dont change anything. this is probably the greatest band ever and if they changed that would not be good.
Or maybe you should wish that they don't change anything at all. They seem to make great music as they are -- don't rock the boat.
I agree with Kamronkhan. I'm a convicted Christian and I'm ashamed to say that most Christian metal is pretty crappy. I love With Blood Comes Cleansing, Becoming the Archetype, and Impending Doom though. I wish BTBAM would convert to Christianity !
christian metal is lame. except for only a handful of bands. "With blood comes cleansing" is a sick deathcore christian band for example. Most are gay as hell though...und e r o a t h , norma jean, etc. Gay.
alaska and silent circus are the two best ..... well at least that is my thoughts
f**k man! i was gonna see them with opeth and dream theater. but i got there late.... PISS! they rip it though.
