Bitter:Sweet
Biography
Baroque trip-hop duo Bitter:Sweet formed in Los Angeles featuring vocalist Shana Halligan and producer Kiran Shahani (the latter of whom is also a founding member of Supreme Beings of Leisure). The two had lived just one block away from each other and had even recorded in the same studio before meeting via an online ad. Bitter:Sweet released its debut, The Mating Game, on Quango in April 2006. Drama followed in mid-2008, featuring a track titled "The Bomb" that was used as the theme for the television series Lipstick Jungle. In addition to Bitter:Sweet, Shahani's credits include music for films and television and remixes for such artists as Marilyn Manson; Halligan has had several compositions appear on television and film and has performed on programs including Boston Legal. ~ Kenyon Hopkin, All Music Guide

Wow, this is a new level of suck. Saying this band sucks just isn't enough.

I just heard their song 'Trouble' from Drama and honestly, I wish they'd stop using the same theme they used for both Dirty Laundry & the Mating Game! I mean, it's a cool theme, but not when it's overdone...

paul2451, the music style is baroque not her singing style, typical baroque music isnt even sung. duh.
whoa, I swear when I made this comment 10 minutes ago Drama was NOT on here. Yay drama!
The only Baroque is the biography author's understandin g about the definition of Baroque. SHE IS SINGING BLUES MELODIES ON EVERY SONG THAT I HAVE HEARD HERE. BLUES, NOT Baroque, BLUES.
OK, well her voice and some of the processing effects sound a bit like The Cardigans.
I like it. Never heard of them before but they sound great. Man they are so similar to some other artist.... who is it!?

This is spectacular. I really really dig this. It's brand new to me, faster than Massive attack, more complex than tricky and more upbeat than PortisHead.
Although, those bands are awesome, these guys are a new, unique twist on the trip hop genre. I really really dig this. |
"Suave" is the only adjective that perfectly describes this music.
I caught a performance and met the band afterward. Not only was it a great live show, but the band was super nice.
very slick, smooth, and just all-round satisfying. Definitely recommend picking this up.
they have another album, Drama. The song "the Bomb" is amazing. it a was used as the cover song for NBC's Lipstick Jungle.
Smart, groovy and sensual, with a great use of the electronic sound for a spacey soundscape.

@ Farrewa:
I came asking about the same thing. This song and "Dr. Dre - what's the difference" share the same background beat. (http://www. y o u t u b e . c o m / w a t c h ? v = x D d P a f s P C N k ) I wonder what song came first? Anyone know? |
"dirty laundry" same sample as dre's "what's the difference" anyone know the source? there it's dark menacing, here it's a rumba party with confetti!!!
from the post below: "this singer sounds like portishead.. . "
sorry, but no one sounds like beth gibbons but beth gibbons |
I had the pleasure of seeing them live Sunday night and I must say sensual is an understateme n t . Every song oozed sensuality which is very hard to find in most live shows. The entire band was friendly approachable and glad to be playing music. The ultimate package was an unforgettabl e experience. I will seek them out to see them again.
Saw them perform last night. Verrryyy sensual music. Beautiful venue. Great live show, even with technical difficulties . Shana is a very personable performer, great audience interaction and sweet attitude.
why do all these female singers sound similar? this singer sounds like portishead, morcheeba, nouvelle vague, regina spektor...th e list goes on.
Great band. Got to see them a while back at the Roxy with Natalie Walker and that was one of the best shows of my life. They have great stage presence and you can tell that they work well together on stage. I haven't picked up their new album yet but it's definitely on my to do list because they're well worth it and should be bigger than they are.

I prefer the original "The Mating Game" to the remixed "The Remix Game." Some of the remixes miss the mark and do a dis-service to this talented duo. Shana Halligan is a gifted vocalist and Kiran Shahani's stylings suit her musical talents well. As good as this album is, their newer album, "Drama," is technically more intricate and serves to showcase not only Shana's voice, but Kiran's production talents at a new level.
