The Black Mages
Selected Discography
combine Magus from CT with Sephiroth. theres a really bad a** villian for ya!
Sephiroth almost destroys a planet. Kefka almost became a god. Then again, you have to respect the near immortal Sin...but what about FFV's ExDeath?
But no, the best is by far Kefka, with Garland coming in a close second. |
Magus was no villain he was just misunderstoo d .
Best villain, would be, though not exactly a true villain but a curse from the heavens, Omega-X from FF5. |
i second fendwicthemo o s e , japanese rock really gets me bangin' like no western counterpart! it is truly amazing what video games have done to the music industry! As for villains, Sephiroth ALL THE WAY!!!
I second that staement about Kefka being the best villain in any of the games crono7. Sephiroth doesn't have s**t on him.

Yes, Mr. Uematsu is a genius composer, I have every final fantasy game and the OST for VI through XII, I also have two albums from the Black Mages. Black Mages rock! IMO, each FF from VI to XII has something I really like or think 'has the best of' about them. For instance, VI has the coolest villain ever (Magus from CT is a close 2nd), and XII has the funnest game-play (A.I. system, Opt. Bosses)

The original otherworld was not performed by Rammstein. The original was composed by Nobuo Uematsu for Final Fantasy X. This is his band, doing a remix of his own music. |
If you gave The Black Mages a 80S style singer like Vince Neil, Dee Snider, and/or Daivd Lee Roth, this band would have been Asian dynamite. The Japanese have some of the best guitar sounds out there period. It doesn't mater what language the metal is in, the feeling is always there. If a forceful singer could connect the epic feelings to lyrics... New cultural Icons.
the original otherworld was performed by rammstein. that version is so cool
Man, one of the best instrumental bands ever, although Otherworld and Darkness and Starlight are easily their 2 worst songs. But if you really like this song go look up the original Otherworld, its more of a Death metal feel and doesn't have a stupid pop-star girl singing it.
I've been listening to these guys for only a little while. I'm fourteen and these guys do awesome renditions of every song. I've played almost all the Final Fantasy's and love the hell out of them. My favorite and probably everyone elses is probably FFVII. There version of the bombing mission is awesome. Hail The Black Mages.
The dont have Darkness and Starlight! First track, Opening: Bombing Mission, stellar.
If ever there's a remake of FFX Seymour Battle theme from the Mages belongs there. It tops the other one on so many levels.
Where is the third CD, they did FF7's Bombing Run, and how can that song not make you want to pick up an overly clunky sword and go kick some Shinra buttocks.
FYI, This music is similar to Nobuo Uematsu (the composer for Final Fantasy) because, well, this is his band. So, this is pretty much awesome-that is, if you enjoy music that varies and combines ambience with strong orchestral tendencies.

Never heard of 'The Black Mages' nice style and tight! Thanks Pandora! The mind is the weapon the body is the tool! I am a martial artist and kendo fighter. Later.

@ cody cross
FTW, definitely! Just because this music was composed for a video game doesn't automaticall y make it lame or bad in any way. There's a lot of depth here. Dismissing it like that is akin to saying you think that John Williams is a poor composer because he writes scores for movies. |
This is great music. FYI, the band was started by Nobuo Uematsu himself! He plays the organ/keyboa r d / p i a n o in the band.
Video game music is definetely awesome. These remakes are great! Along with the Minibosses and The Advantage is one that is not featured on Pandora, "The Neskimoes". Their music has a more metal sound but is definetely of the same great sound we love :D
Probably the most tasteful instrumental band I've heard recently- along with Planet X.
awesome i don't know about other people but i like the Black Mages
To edkimsey. I'm currently working on a video game radio, combining The Advantage, Miniboss, and this band, though it's somewhat slow going.
