Black Stone Cherry
Biography
Black Stone Cherry hails from a small, rural town in south central Kentucky. According to bandmembers, none of whom were born before 1983, the lack of anything to do in their hometown, coupled with a rich musical background in their town and families, led them to start playing music. Lead vocalist and guitarist Chris Robertson met drummer John Fred Young (the son of Kentucky Headhunters forming member Richard Young) in school, and the two played music together throughout high school. In June of 2001, Black Stone Cherry officially formed with guitarist Ben Wells and bassist Jon Lawhon. The group began holding shows at old-time music clubs in the area, and after a short while, they gained a large following of people of all ages in the town. The band recorded their first album for In De Goot/Roadrunner Records, and after they returned from the recording session, Black Stone Cherry held a homecoming concert at the local high school. The self-titled debut album was released in July of 2006, followed by Folklore and Superstition in 2008. ~ Megan Frye, All Music Guide

If you like the sound of this band at all. . . .you HAVE to see them live!! John Fred is a monster on the drums. . .maybe not the most accurate drummer, but his stage presence makes up for any 'misses'. These guys play way over their collective ages. Chris sings like any singer with years of vocal training (maybe he has. . . .).I hope they build a stronger following here in the states. They are headliners at the download fest in the UK.

I've been listening to hard rock/souther n rock/metal for over 25 years. I believe with some maturity these guys will be as good as any band in the last 40 years. Their self-titled debut was pretty good (with flashes of brilliance a la Rollin' On). Folklore and Superstition is even better.
At their worst, they are indistinguis h a b l e from any other modern metal band that you hear on the radio and at their best these young men could redefine hard rock for at least the next generation. |

bsc are going to be around for a long time coming. i saw them live at skullbone opening up for lynyrd skynyrd.that s in the beautiful state of tennesse.bef o r e they were popular.had a great time with all my friends' it rained it's a** off and the red tennesse mudd was slippery.fou r wheel drive trucks were getting stuck.people all pulled togather and were helping push eash other out of the mudd.did i mention it was on a hill.there was this one dude who took his younger brother to the show, his bro.

was starting to think there would never be another good metal band again. the last one to show up on the scene was disturbed, and even they are kind of iffy some times. these guys got the guitar crunch, the drums, and the guy actually sings instead of whining like pretty much every band that popped up since the start of the 90s. as an old school metal/classi c rock fan, im very impressed. its good to see that talent can still get you somewhere in the music industry.

I'm not impressed, sound like any other pop rock garbage. maybe i shouldn't judge the book by its cover? lol.

I have been privileged to see them 3 times so far this year and each time they have gotten better & better. From a small club setting to Buzzfest, these guys put on an unforgettabl e show. The drummer does part of his solo on the bass which is kick a**. I know everyone has their fav song but 'The Bitter End' is one of the best songs this year, lyrically & musically and I hope they release it. The drumming is phenomenal, the multipart vocals and how it changes up... Perfection.
