The Blow
Biography
The Blow is really visual artist and performer Khaela Maricich, who formerly released recordings under the name Get the Hell Out of the Way of the Volcano, after which she recorded (with the help of some guests) for K under the name the Blow. The Blow set lyrics that sound like unverbalized thoughts to herself to minimal, often electronically textured basic pop melodies. Maricich's debut as the Blow was 2002's Bonus Album, which she followed the next year with The Concussive Caress, or, Casey Caught Her Mom Singing Along with the Vacuum. In 2004, Maricich teamed up with musical tech-geek Jona Bechtolt for the recording of the limited-edition EP Poor Aim: Love Songs, released late that same year. The results were much to their liking, so much so that the Blow decided to thus remain a duo. Everyday Examples of Humans Facing Straight into the Blow arrived early in 2005 and contained material that had previously been released under Maricich's earlier Volcano moniker. The Portland-based duo then returned in October 2006 with a full-length of new music entitled Paper Television. ~ Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide

I'd rather they point that out in the article, but once it's already on the website it seems like it's set in stone, they don't seem to change it very often, if ever. In the band Blow i believe they all play an equal role, because one without the other and the band falls apart. They are missing key aspects if parted.

Even though this guide says that Khaela is the biggest part in this band, i still think the other dude does the music and the hooks and rhythms. They state in this article that he is a music tech geek, meaning he knows his way around the programming of a Synthesizer and/or Keyboard, as well as the recording products too. He probably does all the production work and the Khaela girl does the lyrics and inspiration for all the songs and what not.

this seems like a really interesting group! (even though i hear it's mostly Khaela) i like it 'cause its a bit strange-in a good way! i like a ton of different stuff, but i think its all kind of strange in a good way. What is life w/out a little experimentat i o n ? (p.s., one of the other groups i like is the birthday massacre. the title sounds more violent than the group really is, trust me)

I really like the simplicity, yet simultaneous l y it was intriguing. A true testament to how clarity by far more important than complex.

My brother turned me onto them. He's way too cool for me and so are they - I love them! How are they not huge? But glad they are not.

Poetic lyrics and minimal background with just enough melody to be entrancing. Love the Blow.

Seeing Khaela live is what really won me over with this band. Not only is their music incredibly creative, she brings a lot of energy with her dancing. Her anecdotes and background stories inbetween songs are typically funny and always interesting.
